When we first opened our practice, we didn’t expect to see many cats—but we quickly learned just how much cats (and their humans) appreciate in-home veterinary care. Time and again, our feline patients have shown us that they’re far more relaxed when they’re in the comfort of their own environment.
One client once shared that her cats typically disappeared for days after a clinic visit. But just ten minutes after our housecall, she texted us, thrilled to report that they were already lounging in their favorite spots as if nothing had happened. That’s the kind of difference home-based care can make.
Housecall medicine was truly made for cats. We understand that feeling safe and minimizing stress are fundamental to feline health, especially during times of illness. What could be more calming than receiving care from your veterinarian while curled up in your favorite chair or on your own bed?
Visiting your home also allows us to observe your cat in a natural, relaxed state—giving us richer insight into their behavior and overall health. It also gives us the time to truly get to know both you and your pet, without the rush or overwhelm of a busy clinic.
To help make each visit as low-stress and comforting as
possible, we bring along a few cat-friendly tools:
- Cat Snuggie – A soft wrap designed to help cats feel secure without feeling confined. Perfect for cats who love to be cozy.
- I-Stat Blood Machine – Allows us to check kidney values with just a few drops of blood—ideal for senior cats or those who dislike blood draws.
- Feliway Spray – We apply this calming pheromone to ourselves and our equipment to help your cat feel more at ease.
- Gabapentin – A gentle anti-anxiety medication we recommend for cats who may feel nervous about handling or unfamiliar visitors.
- Solensia – The first and only FDA-approved monthly injection for feline osteoarthritis pain. It works by targeting Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), helping relieve discomfort and improve mobility.

We’ve also learned a lot from our own cats, Michael and Storm, who’ve taught us that every feline has a unique personality. That’s why we tailor each visit to your cat’s comfort level. Some cats prefer to take things slow with a break or two during the exam, while others are ready to get everything done at once. We schedule all appointments for a full hour so there’s no rush—just thoughtful, compassionate care at your cat’s pace.
At NPLH, we’re proud to offer a calm, respectful approach to feline medicine, right where your cat feels most at home.
